About Moreton Neal:
Moreton, a native Mississippian, came to North Carolina to attend Duke University. She and late husband Bill Neal opened Restaurant La Residence in the Chapel Hill area in 1976, and she managed the restaurant until 1992. She now designs interiors professionally. She also writes a gourmet column for Raleigh Metro Magazine and leads tours of southern France (see www.provenceforaweek.com). Her cookbook. Remembering Bill Neal: Recipes from a Lifetime in Cooking, is available at www.amazon.com, as well as Barnes and Noble, Borders, Crook's Corner, La Residence, and local bookstores. Moreton lives in Chapel Hill with her husband Drake Maynard.

"On November 24, 1990, Fred Benton introduced Food Forum to AM 620 listeners. At that time Fred was the food editor for Spectator Magazine; I owned and managed a Chapel Hill restaurant. We met and became fast friends when Fred visited my place, La Residence, to research an article for his column.

When Fred had the opportunity to produce his own radio show, he invited me to be his first guest. We had such a good time on air that he asked me to return a month later. Two weeks passed before he invited me back for another appearance. After that show, Fred said, "Moreton, why don't you just stay!" I've been on the air with him ever since.

Over the years Fred and I have enjoyed chatting with chefs and cookbook writers-too many to count- including the outspoken Craig Claiborne, hilarious Graham Kerr, passionate Paul Prudhomme, everyone's inspiration, Julia Child, and the queen mother of Italian cooking, Marcella Hazan. We are delighted to see several of our favorite guests-- such as Sara Moulton, Bobby Flay, Emeril Lagasse, and Charlie Trotter--become stars of their own shows on Food TV.

In 1996 WDNC asked us to expand the show beyond the food scene. The result, The Better Living Show, covers all aspects of Triangle life from health to home décor, gardening, books, theater, consumer issues, visual arts, and events.

With this website we offer you easy access to information from each show. Names of books and authors we interview, recommended restaurants, recipes, wines, travel information, sponsor lists, and links to our regular guests. Under Show Notes you will find the basics--names of guests and features from each show. For more detailed information, you can link to the appropriate webpage.

I hope you, dear listeners, will enjoy using this website as much as Fred and I enjoy putting it together. Thanks to all of you for tuning in to The Better Living Show on AM 620 and AM 570 on Monday and Wednesday mornings. We love your company!"--Moreton
