For reviews of wines, Better Living recommends "the Flying Wineman," Andrew Jones's website www.wineontheweb.com. Andrew, British television commentator and wine expert, is the author of The Stories behind the Labels, and Wine Talk. The irrepressible Andrew flies in from England every year to entertain and educate us about wine.

Paul Gilster, Better Living's regular wine expert and wine columnist for Spectator Magazine, can be reached at gilster@mindspring.com.and welcomes your wine questions.

Dave Hunter, "The Wine Guy," from Classic Distributing in Raleigh visits us in the studio each Wednesday for a tasting of his "wine of the week." Classic Wines can be found at The Wine Merchant, Fowler's, and other retail wine stores in the Triangle.

We also recommend Brentwood Wine Company, a complete fine wine auction house and retailer with something for every wine lover. Brentwood provides a great site which makes the world's best products (many of which are unobtainable elsewhere) with personal, professional service. www.brentwoodwine.com

A straightforward California red with hints of cherry, herbs, and berries. Not subtle, but very quaffable at $11

Paul Gilster describes this Cote de Rhone as a "young, but engaging
Syrah blend with an interesting strawberry aroma. $9

Terrazas de los Andes Malbec 1999

flavor. At $12, a good choice to serve with grilled tuna or a pasta dish...October 5

A dry, crisp sparkling wine. Dave Hunter compares its clean fruity taste to
a tart red delicious apple. He recommends pairing it with salty fish or
sushi. $14-$17

Antonori Orvieto Classico
Dave Hunter recommends this light Italian white wine with pear and almond
flavors. Serve with shrimp, seviche or pasta primavera. It would also stand
alone as an aperitif. About $12

Luna di Luna Chardonnay Pinot Grigio
Dave Hunter shared this light acidic white wine with us on the show. A good
aperitif wine if you like a clean, tart chardonnay without oak. This cobalt
blue bottle is hard to miss in the wine department where it sells for about
$11..
..October 5

Goulaine Chardonnay 1998
A light, tart, refreshing chardonnay from the Loire region of France, this
wine has a lemony flavor and no oak at all. Very different from the familiar
buttery chards from California, this wine is not complex, but would be good
with simple seafood preparations. A bargain at $7-$9
